Faced with the growing challenges posed by rising sea levels, the salinisation of agricultural land and the increasing economic vulnerability of coastal farms, the ‘Espaces Tests Permaquacoles’ project, led by Le Paysan Marin, offers an innovative educational approach to support the transition of coastal regions.
The aim is to train professionals, students, agricultural sixth-formers and people undergoing retraining in sustainable agri-aquaculture practices, whilst raising awareness of the ecological challenges facing coastal wetlands.
Learning through experience
The project is based on a teaching approach centred on practical experience and experimentation. In particular, it involves the creation of the first training centre dedicated to regenerative aquaculture, enabling trainees to learn directly in the field.
This approach will help participants acquire practical skills to tackle the environmental challenges facing coastal areas.
Preserving the balance between land and sea
The training programmes developed as part of the project will address several key issues:
Participants will thus be made aware of the need to balance production, the conservation of natural resources and the resilience of local areas.
A scientific and agricultural partnership
The project brings together a number of organisations active in research, agriculture and aquaculture:
This complementary mix ensures a strong link between scientific knowledge, professional expertise and practical realities on the ground.
Expected impact
By developing new training and awareness-raising initiatives, the project will help prepare professionals and future stakeholders in the sector for the challenges posed by climate change and the sustainable management of coastal areas. It will also contribute to the dissemination of innovative practices that reconcile economic activity with soil conservation and the protection of coastal ecosystems.
